The RBSA curates an inclusive and comprehensive artistic programme each year.
Every form of connection with the Gallery – through exhibitions, events, research and education activities – is intended to promote engagement with the arts on a multitude of levels.
The RBSA showcases contemporary artists from the region and brings the work of nationally and internationally renowned artists to Birmingham by hosting solo shows.
Current and potential RBSA artists are promoted in the Members and Associates and Candidates exhibitions. In addition, six themed exhibitions of designer-maker craft are held each year in our critically acclaimed ground floor Craft Gallery.
The annual programme also includes exhibitions aimed specifically at new and emerging artists, with two open submission and two Friends exhibitions each year. The ‘Open’ enables all local artists, including those not associated with the RBSA, to submit their work. The ‘Friends’ provides Friends of the RBSA with an exclusive exhibition opportunity.
Admission to all exhibitions is free.
The RBSA delivers programmes of workshops each Spring and Summer, with classes ranging from one to four days. Each workshop is friendly, enjoyable and informative; they represent excellent value for money and help support the RBSA.
The Friends programme provides local art lovers with a host of benefits including talks, events, the chance to exhibit, and discounts on workshops. The RBSA is also actively involved in promoting local art history and providing access to our historic Permanent Collection and Archive, managed by a team of enthusiastic volunteers.
