Learning

The RBSA Gallery offers education activities for all ages, helping people engage with the arts by promoting creativity and learning. We also offer valuable work experience and career development opportunities.

Activities include:

  • Summer School programmes
  • Graduate and undergraduate placements
  • Adult and family friendly workshops
  • Free demonstrations and open events
  • School visits and school workshops (both on and off site)

All education workshops and projects are delivered by staff or experienced RBSA Members and Associates with the aim of strengthening participants’ understanding and appreciation of art and art history.

Volunteering and Placements

Established relationships with local schools, colleges and universities allow students to access high quality learning activities, placements and volunteering opportunities. More details are available at the main website.

The RBSA Gallery also houses a Permanent Collection and Archive, managed by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, and students find working in the archive particularly valuable, as they can access material for studies, or gain curatorial experience.

The Permanent Collection contains more than 800 pieces of work by Members, Associates and artists with a connection to the Midlands,  including paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery. There is an ongoing acquisitions programme and the Collection continues to grow each year.

The Archive documents the history and activity of the Society. It includes letters, diaries, and exhibitions catalogues dating from the nineteenth century. These materials can be used for school or college workshops, and projects and placements can be arranged.
